General description This subject provides a coherent and comprehensive perspective of the characteristics of the population and its dynamics, and provides an insight into the main demographic challenges - particularly population aging - facing European societies. The analysis of the composition of the population by sex and age and its graphical representation will be addressed. Students will learn how the different demographic variables (mortality, fertility, migrations) condition the structure of the population by sex and age, which will allow them to understand the process of population aging and the changes in the age structure at advanced ages. The student will become familiar with the statistical and mathematical techniques necessary for the study of the population. Finally, the retirement age will be analyzed from a demographic perspective, and the pension system in Spain will be presented.
