General description This subject delves into the process of generating and modeling the appearance of materials (material appearance modeling & shading). This is one of the fundamental processes within the 3D graphics pipeline and is decisive in the final appearance of computer-generated synthetic images. In this subject, the basic concepts introduced in the compulsory subject of "materials and lighting" will be extended and we will learn to use physical approaches to simulate more realistic materials. To achieve this goal, students must develop an analytical view of the appearance of materials, interpreting and decomposing real materials into their fundamental attributes and properties, so that they can then reproduce and reconstruct them in a virtual environment. Students will also learn how to generate, reproduce or capture textures, use procedural definitions or combinations of the above alternatives, to create materials with a more realistic and complex appearance.
