Esta materia céntrase no estudo das grandes civilizacións que, entre o IV e o I milenio a. C., establecéronse na chaira aluvial delimitada polos ríos Tigris e Éufrates no actual Iraq e parte de Siria, a saber: Sumer, Acad, Asiria e Babilonia.
