General description	Se persigue una aproximación a la realidad americana desde la etapa anterior al Descubrimiento hasta la pérdida definitiva de las colonias en 1898. Las instituciones, la sociedad, la economía y la cultura vertebrarán el estudio, tanto de la América Colonial como del resto de áreas que estuvieron sometidas a potencias europeas.
