General description Todo fenómeno social ten como transfundo o desenvolvemento económico existente no contexto social relevante. E como aspecto chave dese desenvolvemento económico está o nivel de renda das persoas. Por tanto, o cambio social, a dinámica de valores e roles sociais, as características das organizacións e institucións, ou as demandas e problemáticas sociais están mediadas polo crecemento económico. É mais, os conceptos propios da teoría do crecemento económico son útiles para entender moitos fenómenos sociais e económicos: tipos de bens tanxibles e intanxibles, rendementos decrecentes dos factores, rendementos crecentes de escala, incentivos privados á innovación, razóns para a intervención pública...

Este curso consolida e amplía o estudo da Economía, iniciado na materia de Economía Política do primeiro curso do Grado en Socioloxía. Porase o acento en manexar conceptos e estatísticas para avaliar a dinámica económica, especialmente o crecemento a longo prazo. O curso é un bo complemento para a cultura profesional dos sociólogos e para outras materias optativas ou TFGs relacionados con globalización, sustentabilidade medioambiental, migracións, demografía, coñecemento, cambio social, movementos sociais, políticas públicas ou metodoloxía de análise. Pero está especialmente deseñado para "aprender a pensar" en
termos de modelos mentais e de mecanismos de incentivos.

1) Introduction and measurement Incentives and institutions. Questions, times, model and assumptions. Rates of growth, GDP, real economic growth and other indicators.
2) Classical explanations of growth Production function, capital and labor factors, human capital (education), constant returns to scale, law of diminishing returns, exogenous growth based on technical progress.
3) Economics of ideas Endogenous growth based on incentives to innovate, complementarities, externalities, contextual effects, increasing returns to scale, properties of knowledge, diffusion, market structure and institutions, public intervention.

Assessment comments

- Additionally, it is possible to add points through the presentation of voluntary tasks.

- The assessment criteria for students with part-time dedication or attendance exemption may be adapted so that the final exam weighs 100% or they can also do tasks not related to face-to-face evaluation.

- If plagiarism is detected in an essay or cheating in an exam, the qualification of "fail" (0 numerical mark) will be obtained in that opportunity, even if that requires modifying the official marks of that opportunity.
