General description A asigantura trata de dotar o alumno dunha base amplia en terminoloxía básica relacionada coas instalacions e operacions do buque así como dunha competencia comunicativa falada , escrita e lectora que lle permita desenrolar as súas funcions profesionais nun ambiente internacional, así como redactar correspondencia comercial e técnica utilizando términos comerciais así como abreviaturas e expresions propias do mundo marítimo no que desenrolará a súa actividade.
El curso incluirá diversos procedimientos recomendados por la OMI para la formación de marinos. Así mismo desarrollará las capacidades de los alumnos para la utilización del idioma a un nivel medio/alto con el empleo de terminología propia de Inglés Marítimo hasta alcanzar un nivel que les permita la comprensión y utilización de la lengua acorde con los requisitos del International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW 78/95)

The development and overcoming of these contents, together with those corresponding to other subjects that include the acquisition of specific competencies of the degree, guarantees the knowledge, comprehension and sufficiency of the competencies contained in Table AII / 2, of the STCW Convention, related to the level of management of chief mates of the Merchant Navy, on ships without gross tonnage limitation and Master up to a maximum of 3.000 GT. Table A-II / 2 of the STCW Convention.

Mandatory minimum requirements for certification of masters and chief mates on chief on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more.

Methodologies Description
Collaborative learning Assignments to do in an individual basis, in pairs or in small groups, on several subject topics. These assignments will be discussed in a roud table later.
Workbook Special sessions around on board real documents and reports. Several activities to train writing skills and pronunciations will be developed.
Supervised projects Writting and presentation of a technical article
Speaking test Brief speaking test with the aim of assess the students' progession on speaking and listening skills.

Following the mark grade established in this test, it will be considered passed with the achievement of 80%. The following will be followed to award the score:

Continuous assessment: it will be necessary to attend at least 80% of the master classes, the completion of at least 80% of the proposed activities (collaborative learning, ICT practicals) and supervised project
Final evaluation: it will be necessary to deliver 100% of the ICT practicals
It is necessary to obtain 4 points in this test to make an average with the other tests and evaluable activities of the subject.

Assessment comments

The assessment critieria reflected on table  A-II/1 of the STCW Code,
and also reflected in the Quality System, are taken into account to
design and perform the assessment.

Fraudulent performance of tests or evaluation activities, once verified, will directly imply the grade "0" in the subject in the corresponding cycle, thus invalidating any grade obtained in all the evaluation activities for the extraordinary cycle.

Students with part-time enrollment and academic grant of attendance exemption, as established by the "NORMA QUE REGULA EL RÉGIMEN DE DEDICACIÓN AL ESTUDIO DE LOS ESTUDANTES DE GRADO Y MASTER EN LA UDC (Arts. 2.3; 3.b; 4.3 and 7.5 ) (05/04/2017) may take the mid-term exams, if any, without having to attend 80% of the face-to-face classes, as long as the professors are duly informed at the beginning of the course. Regardless of the foregoing, the professors may assign these students with different assignments/ problems throughout the course to be presented during tutorials, using the TEAMS system if appropriate in the teacher's opinion.
