O autor como consecuencia da súa dilatada experiencia profesional e académica (profesor na Universidade de Cambridge), presenta un texto que combina aspectos moi variados do que poderiamos denominar "mercados do transporte marítimo". Este último feito resulta en especial reseñable, mentres a maioría dos tratados analizan unicamente o mercado de fretes, leste, enfócao a través do que o denomina como o catro mercados do transporte marítimo; o de fretes, o de compra / venda de buques, o de novas construcións e finalmente o de despezamentos. Este feito diferenciador resulta en extremo interesante para o enfoque da materia dentro da titulación de Enxeñaría Naval e Oceánica. De igual modo deixar constancia do interesante contido da longa lista de figuras e táboas, gran número delas de elaboración propia, que permiten realizar unha análise completa da evolución do catro mercados anteriormente citados. Trátase por tanto dun manual de carácter xeral e xa clásico, máis destinado a alumnos profanos na materia, que a profesionais ou estudiosos. Ante esta situación cambiante, a monografía comentada, cobra especial relevancia pola súa amplitude de contidos e actualidade. Tocando aspectos portuarios e de consolidación da carga, que dalgún modo resultan tamén de interese no aspecto bibliográfico da materia de "Sistemas de Carga/Descarga", a obra resalta nos apartados dedicados á documentación da carga, as estruturas típicas da liña regular (conferencias de fretes, consellos de usuarios e a fórmula de cooperación entre servizos) e os transportes multimodales.
