Methodologies Description
Online forum Informal discussion space for students to exchange ideas concerning specific problem or topic. Interaction takes place in online learning environment using asynchronous communication tools (‘forum’).
Directed discussion Group dynamic technique involving free, informal, spontaneous debate among members of group; may also take form of coordinated discussion in presence of moderator
Case study Teaching-learning method in which students are presented with a specific set of real-life circumstances and a problem (‘case’) which they must attempt to understand, assess and solve as a group through a process of discussion. Students should be able to analyse a series of facts relating to a particular area of knowledge or activity, and arrive at a rational conclusion via a process of discussion within small work groups.
Workbook Compilation of printed texts and written documents, collected and edited as tool to consolidate knowledge of course content.
Oral presentation Group exhibition of a service-learning experience or of a book chosen by the micro-group. The presentation will last a maximum of 15 minutes and will take place in interactive sessions during the months of April and May. More information in the "Assessment" section of this syllabus, or in Moodle.
Guest lecture / keynote speech Oral presentation by the professor (using audiovisual material and student interaction) designed to transmit knowledge and encourage learning. Presentations of this type are variously referred to as ‘expository method’, ‘guest lectures’ or ‘keynote speeches’. (The term ‘keynote’ refers only to a type of speech delivered on special occasions, for which the lecture sets the tone or establishes the underlying theme; it is characterised by its distinctive content, structure and purpose, and relies almost exclusively on the spoken word to communicate its ideas.)
Supervised projects Completion –individually, in pairs or in groups– of designing either a service-learning project or a hypothetical socio-educational proposal, following the guidelines given in class. This final project will consist of explaining in writing either type of project based on the analysis and application of the contents addressed throughout the semester. It is to be submitted in written form the day of the final exam.

Please submit papers without binding plastics; choose double-sided printing; use recycled paper; and avoid printing out drafts. We must work towards a sustainable use of resources and the prevention of negative impacts on the natural environment.

The importance of ethical principles related to the values of sustainability in personal and professional behavior must be taken into account.

Simulation Teaching strategy involving analysis of physical, technical or psychological phenomena using simplified, safer or more economical models of original conditions. Subjects are presented with hypothetical set of circumstances in order to test their response, awareness and understanding, and ability to analyse options available and impact of each. Simulates real-life situations with aim of engaging students in learning process, or for purposes of assessment.
Events academic / information Activities involving attendance at and participation in academic and information events (conferences, congresses, symposia, lectures, presentations, etc.), aimed at increasing student knowledge of specific elements of course content. Provides students with relevant learning experiences by bringing them into contact with latest thinking in particular areas of study. They are an integral part of the Pilot Programme for the Promotion of the Galician Language in Social Education".
Aprendizaxe servizo Service Learning: Methodology that combines service to the community with learning in a single project, in which students are trained by working on the real needs of their environment in order to improve it.

In the context of this course (Peace Ed), we will be working on ways to both prevent violence towards and among children and youth, and promote their wellbeing at home, at school and in the local community. The recent law on the protection of children and youth against violence (Ley Orgánica 8/2021, de 4 de junio, de protección integral a la infancia y la adolescencia frente a la violencia - https://www.boe.es/eli/es/lo/2021/06/04/8/con) will be of particular importance here. The NGO Educo will be collaborating with us on these projects.
Collaborative learning Guided teaching-learning procedures (overseen in person and/or using ICT methods) based on organisation of class into small groups in which students work together to solve tasks assigned by teacher, with aim of optimising their learning experience and that of other members of group.
