Este material é fundamental para comprender mellor a realidade social de raza e xénero no groso da poboación dos Estados Unidos. Esa é a razón pola que os estudantes serán encouraed para asistir aos filmes (algúns filmes notables sobre artistas incribles, como Paxaro, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles ou Tina Turner), así como a versión do xogo de A Raisin in the Sun por Lorena Hansberry, ou a versión cinematográfica de Richard Wright Native Son onde o escritor fai o papel do protagonista. As mulleres de Brewster Place por Gloria Naylor, The Color Purple por Alice Walker, ou Amado, baseado na novela do mesmo título de Toni Morrison son unha obriga para os estudantes deste asunto.

Os alumnos son animou a traer á aula calquera material que poida atopar relacionados coa comunidade africano-americanos nos Estados Unidos (un novo concerto ou espectáculo, un novo filme, un novo libro, ou calquera tipo de noticias nos medios de comunicación).
